Principles of the BLOA, CLOA and SLOA - GREAT TO MEMORIZE
The principles of each level are very similar overall, but they still differ in the subjects they address and the relationships between these subjects. It is ALWAYS GOOD to mention the principles in any essay, even if they address another level than the one you are focusing on (I don't mean word vomit though, only use them if they make sense and prove a point).
BLOA Principles (Acronym - ICAPE)
- Behavior can be innate because it is generally based
- There are biological correlates of behavior. It should be possible to find a link between a specific biological factor (a hormone or a neurotransmitter) and a specific behavior. To find these links is the aim of biological researchers.
- Animal research can provide insight into human behavior. A significant amount of research is undertaken using animals.
- All behavior has a physiological basis (something physical to do with the body)
- Behavior maybe influenced by evolutionary processes
CLOA Principles (Acronym - IM SCOM)
- Human beings are information processors & mental processes guide behavior
- The mind can be studied scientifically through theories and using a number of scientific research methods
- Cognitive processes are influenced by social and cultural factors
- Cognitive processes actively organize and manipulate information that we receive.
SLOA Principles (Acronym - BICS)
- Humans are social animals and have a basic need to belong
- Human beings are constantly influenced by other people and societal requirements
- Culture influences behavior
- Power of the situation (you don’t know how you will really act in a situation until you are placed in it)
